The Mummy Sandwich

Pin It Now!
I had so much fun making Halloween lunches for Aaron this year, and this mummy sandwich is the last one..... sigh! Well, I think I'm running out of spooky ideas anyway >.<
萬聖節愛心便當係列之.......木乃伊三明治.

I used:
-A slice of nori
-2 candy eyes ( can be replaced with cheese+nori)
-One and a half slice of cheese
-A round cut out sandwich ( this one is a bologna sandwich)

used some mayo to glue the nori on the sandwich first, then trim the nori with scissors

arrange cheese slices on the sandwich

trim the cheese with scissors

How To Draw On Banana

Pin It Now!

You gotta try this one. There is no special tool require. All you need is a banana and a toothpick! Can you imagine how surprised your kid (or husband) will be when s/he opens the lunch bag and see a banana that has message or drawing on it.

Fried Rice Bear

Pin It Now!

Fried rice was one of the first dish I learned how to make ( right after instant noodle ;p). Basic egg fried rice only take about 10 minutes to prepare, and it's so easy! The secret of making it is using cold rice that has been sitting in the fridge over night.
I know many of you already know how to make it. In case you are not one of them....here is how I did it.
如果你看的懂中文,我想你也會做炒飯了吧!以下的圖解是特別為老外做的:p

Beat eggs ( I usually add a little bit of milk)
Heat up 1 tbs of vegetable oil, then fried the egg the way you make scramble egg in medium high heat
Put the rice in when the egg is half cooked.

Season the rice with salt and pepper ( I used only seasoning salt).

Serve the rice as is or get ready to decorate it!

I used apple, olive and ketchup to make this bear.

Say Hi To The Apple Monster!

Pin It Now!

Say cheese......
This apple monster idea I got from Family Fun is definitely a fun and healthy snack your kids will love.
You need: apple, slivered almonds, toothpicks, mini marshmallows and some green cookie icing.

You can get 4 monsters out of one apple.

Put the smaller wedge in your mouth then eat it!
You may toast the almonds first if you want.

Break each pieces of almond in half, then stick them in place for teeth.

Add eyes

Tip: leaving apple in salt water for a few seconds will keep it from browning!

Oct 12, 2011 update:
If you or your kids are allergic to nuts, here is another option: apple vampire

The teeth were cut out from McDonalds straw.
Isn't it a fun and healthy little treat to send to school? Just don't forget to remind the kids to pull out vampire's teeth before eating!

There Is A Monster In My Lunch Box!

Pin It Now!

One more Halloween school lunch! This sandwich is not only good for Halloween, but also any time of the year. Which kids won't be happy to see a monster in their lunch box? This one is a cream cheese sandwich. Of course, it could be any kind of sandwich you want. The eye is a slice of hard boiled egg that I prepared last night. Then I used scissors to cut the bologna tongue and nori (seaweed). Finally, I used some cream cheese to glue the eye and tongue on the sandwich.
便當怪獸!啊~~~~~~

Here comes another monster!!!!

Pirate Sandwich

Pin It Now!

How do you like this pirate sandwich? Pretty cool, huh? My 5 years old son told me the older kids in his school loved this sandwich!
I used toast stamper to print the picture. Have you ever heard of toast stamper? I didn't know there was such thing until I saw one in the store.
小男生會喜歡的海盜三明治.酷!

Eyeball Burger

Pin It Now!

This mini beef burger was the first Halloween theme lunch I made for my son to bring to school this year. I used food writer to draw the blood vessels in eye. The center of the eye was made of cheese and nori ( a slice of olive will do the same trick). I think this eyeball burger would be perfect for halloween party as well!
萬聖節愛心便當系列之.......眼珠漢堡

Speaking of food writer, I have to say it's a wonderful item to have in your kitchen if you have kids. You can use it to draw on food that has dry and smooth surface such as hamburger bun, hard boiled egg, cheese and marshmallow. I even use it to write messages on my son's plate.

The idea of this marshmallow clown came from The Decorated Cookie.

2 Very Different Looks From Behind

Pin It Now!
Both the sandwich and the cookies were made a while ago. I like them a lot so I still like to share them with you. Don't you think they are very cute? hehehe.....in a very different way though ;p
兩個完全不同但一樣好笑的背影:D

This lunch was made for my son. There are grapes, peas and Japanese egg rolls on the right side. On the left side is a bear sandwich that was cut out from 3 cookie cutters. The tail is just a raisin.

These thong cookies were served after a small dinner party with our family friends, and they did put big smiles on every one's face.
We were all surprised when my son said " hey...those are underwear cookies"!

Little Skull Bento

Pin It Now!
I made this tiny bento for my girlfriend's 2 years old son. The sandwich was made of whole wheat bread and dark chocolate spread. On the side of the skull was some dried cranberries. It seemed that he was too young to know what the skull was; however, those cranberries sure kept him busy while my friend and I had some girl's talk :D

Apple O'lantern

Pin It Now!
My husband went on a fishing trip with his buddy 2 weeks ago. He didn't get any fish (ha ha ha), but he did bring home nearly 30 lbs of apples. Luckily apple keeps pretty good in the fridge. I haven't eaten so many apples in such short period of time. Well....my mom always tells us " an apple a day keeps the doctor away"!
Since it's getting close to Halloween, I use some of these apples to make " apple o'lantern". My 5 years old son loves to bring this to school for snack time.
給小朋友的點心....健康又好玩!

This coffin is from Micheals the craft store. It's for people to colour, not to pack snacks. It's made from unfinished wood, so I figured it should be ok to put food in there!

I do enjoy carving apple more than pumpkin. 2 reasons....First, carving apple is not as messy. Also, it's ok to screw up because you can always just eat it :D
